Sale And Purchase Of Domestic Properties
Telephone - Telecom should be advised of the date for disconnecting
the telephone at your existing residence (if any) and will require
details to connect to your new residence.
Electricity- The meters should be read on or immediately before
the date on which you take or give possession and you should contact
the closest branch of the SEQEB for this purpose. You should also
pay or receive back your security deposit.
Post Office - You should make arrangements to have your mail
re-directed to your new address.
Financial Institutions - You should notify your building societies,
finance companies, hire purchase companies, Bankcard and banks regarding
your change of address.
Driver's Licence - You are required to have your new address
inserted on your driver's licence. Enquire at your local Police
station.
Accountant/Solicitor - Your new address should be advised as
this will be important with regard to taxation, wills, etc.
Insurance Policies - You should notify your new address to all
insurance companies in relation to each policy. You will also need
to change your houseowners and householders policy to cover your
new residence if you have not already done so. Please also remember
to review any life cover that you may have.
Employer - Most employers have records of current residential
addresses of employees, so you should let your employer know as
soon as possible.
Health Insurance - If you belong to a health fund, you should
notify them of your new address.
Doctor/Dentist - Your dental and medical records will need to
be changed.
Removalists Check as to exactly what they are going to do and
what they expect you to do. A lot of time is used and a lot of damage
can be incurred in the dismantling and reassembly of "kit set"
furniture.
Gas - If you have a gas hot water system or stove at your existing
or new residence the gas company will need to be advised for meter
readings.
Milkman - You should finalise your old account and make arrangements
in connection with your deliveries at the new address, if required.
Newspapers/Magazines - If you are having deliveries made to
your old address you should arrange to finalise that and make arrangements
for your new residence.
Clubs, Etc - If you are a member of any club or union you should
notify them of your new address.
Keys - If you are selling your home, you should collect all
keys from listing agents prior to completion.
Swimming Pools - If a pool is included in the purchase you should
have the vendor teach you its operation prior to completion. If
any equipment is still under warranty, make sure you receive all
appropriate papers.
General Upkeep - If the property is not going to be occupied
immediately after settlement it would be advisable to ensure that
the lawns are kept short and that the letter box is cleared regularly.
This way you do not leave signs that the property is unoccupied
thus attracting vandals or burglars. If there is a swimming pool
at the property do not forget to arrange to keep up the necessary
chemicals to ensure a clean pool at all times.
Social Security/Family Allowance- This is important as you may
now come under the control of a new office or area.
Landlord - If you are renting do not forget that
you will normally have to give notice to your landlord that you
are moving out. This will depend upon the terms of your lease but
could be up to thirty (30) days. You will need to notify your landlord
as soon as possible to avoid paying your mortgage payments on the
new property and rent in your old.
Salvation Army - When packing there are always things that you
consider to be worthless and throw out. Remember that what may be
worthless to you may be essential to someone else. The Salvation
Army if contacted will call and collect any old clothes or furniture
that you regard as "junk".
Banks, Credit Unions, Financial Institutions,Creditors,Lease And
Rental Companies - There is nothing worse than having forgotten
to notify them and then just when you think the shift is completed
you get an unexpected bill that you have forgotten to pay and no
one forwarded on to you.
Wills - Selling or purchasing a property is for most people
a major change in their lives and you may now find that the provisions
of your will do not reflect your current circumstances. We suggest
that you re-read your will to ensure that it does in fact achieve
the end result that you desire. If you feel that you wish to change
your will or that there are any other matters that require attention,

Subscriptions Magazines Library Books -Don't forget to notify
them of your new address.
Family And Friends - You should notify all family and friends
of your shift, (except those that you may wish to forget. Shifting
homes is often a good chance to "lose" unwanted friends!).
